心理學上有個法則叫二十英哩法則。二十英裏法則是美國心理學家吉姆柯林斯提出的。這個法則講的是：從美國西海岸聖地亞哥到某個地方有3000英裏的路程，徒步走完這段路程需要非常長的時間，地貌非常覆雜，而且經常會遭遇天氣變化。每天該走多少英裏才是一個合適的速度呢？答案是日行20英裏，即32公裏。這樣算一下，走完全程大概需要150天，也就是五個月左右。

Intramural- Something which is done within an institute/ 代表是，一個事情就是內部做的，不要 involve 外面的人。在美國，很多學校每年有很多的運動，可是這個運動，就是學校的學生可以參加，其他的外面的人不可以參加.
Scrimmage- 比較算一種鬥爭！A fight that happens between group of people.

在美國留學時，有件事影響我很大。從小考試解題很厲害，不管什麼題目總能很快解完。我很自豪，殊不知二十年來這習慣造成不良影響，讓我留學時狠狠跌一跤。

當時帶我做研究的是位韓國學長，他把自己寫的通訊系統模擬程式碼給我用，還給我研究的方向。他鼓勵我先研讀他寫的程式碼以對系統通盤了解。一直找不到方向的我，很興奮回家研讀學長的程式碼。但看別人的程式碼真不容易懂，才五分鐘我就有不懂的地方，趕緊打電話問。正在忙著趕博士論文的學長，耐心說明。又看了五分鐘，又發現某處不懂，又打電話問，學長再次耐心回答。十分鐘後，又不懂了，再打電話。這時學長語重心長說：「Ping-Cheng，明天我們見面談談。」

隔天零下十度，我們買了熱咖啡在車裡談。學長說：「Ping-Cheng，我覺得你不適合念博士。你應該去找照章辦事的工作，人生會比較快樂。」從小大家說我很厲害，今天居然被韓國學長說不是念博士的料，怎麼吞得下去！我按捺著性子問：「你憑什麼這麼說？」

In both countries, it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and fishes, that things in general were settled for ever. 

The phrase “clearer than crystal” is usually identified (Sanders, Maxwell) as an allusion to Revelations 21:11. In this passage, the vision of Jerusalem descending from Heaven is described: the city has “the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.” The “loaves and fishes,” on the other hand, refers to the miracle performed by Christ in Matthew 14:17-21 – the multiplication of loaves and fishes to feed the faithful:

If you stand right fronting and face to face to a fact, you will see the sun glimmer on both its surfaces, as if it were a cimeter, and feel its sweet edge dividing you through the heart and marrow, and so you will happily conclude your mortal career. Be it life or death, we crave only reality. If we are really dying, let us hear the rattle in our throats and feel cold in the extremities; if we are alive, let us go about our business.
